Born on the island of Hawai', a graduate of Hilo High School, he continued his education at the Hawaii and Maui Community Colleges majoring in Business Administration and with a minor in Law and Hotel Management. He is also a Certified Insurance Counselor serving as an insurance advisor for Mutual Underwriters since 2001.

Mike is married to his lovely wife Joycelyn and they have two sons: Michael Jr. and Shane, and five grandchildren that he loves dearly.

Mike has been serving on the Maui County Council since 2006. As such he serves as the Wailuku District Chair of the Water Resources Committee and the Vice-Chair of the Planning Committee. He is a member of seven other council committees. 

Mike's community services goes years back with the Maui Jaycees from 1976-1987. He is involved with an array of professional and community activities always wanting to give back. From President of the General Insurance Agents of Maui, to the Hawaii independent Insurance Agents, to serving as Director on the Maui Economic Development Board, being a member of the Rakuen Club, Waihee Community Association, the Waikapu Association, the Japanese Cultural Society of Maui, and the Maui Economic Concerns of the Community Board of Directors just to name a few. 

He also has an extensive leadership involvement in education and sports. He served as a member of the State Board of Education and currently serves as the Tournament Director of the Hawaii Cup Soccer Tournament.

Besides all of this, Mike is noted for his church involvement. Since 1990 he has been a member of the Knights of Columbus serving as a member, Deputy Grand Knight, Grand Knight (Chapter President), State Council Advocate and the State Deputy. 

Today, Mike wants to continue to serve as your voice on the Maui County Council. A voice that echoes your concerns. A voice that matters. A voice that cares.
